SNCF Connect: Trains & trajets App Reviews

Doesnt associate the session with my account information

Theres no way of logging in through the app by using the same identifier and password which is used to access ones account on the website, so theres no way of associating the session established through the appli with ones fidelity card numbers, ones saved frequent itineraries, ones ticket delivery preferences and so on. One can set certain parameters in this app to check on schedules, and to come to an approximation of the price one might get from the website, but ultimately one is forced to return to the website, and log in there to actually make the booking. In addition, as another reviewer has noted, unless one has a French 10-digit cell phone number, one cant use this app at all. In my case, I stay in France for 3 or 4 months per visit, the visits occuring every year or 18 months, and buy a cheap portable phone with a Mobicarte pre-installed in it each time I arrive. Therefore, my cell phone number is only valid for the present trip, and then only after Ive arrived, and have visited the Orange boutique to purchase this trips cheap phone. (My French homes fixed phone is always the same, but thats not a 06 number.) To use this app, I must lie, and provide the phone number from the last trips phone, which is really no longer valid. This unfortunate design choice is disappointing, because the user interface is fairly intuitive and straightforward. However, theres no good reason why this app shouldnt make use of the same login credentials which I present (and which I have presented for 10 years) when I make a booking on the website. Without that ability, its hardly worth using the appli at all.

Phone number format??

Can not complete purchase because app will not recognize my phone number. Big time waster!

Sncf

Tres Bon application

Better than SNCF website

If you need to buy TGV or other tickets, this app is way easier than navigating the SNCF website. Super fast, convenient.

Just amazing

Perfect and easy.

Utter crap

Poorly designed and unstable

Efficient

There is one slight problem. They have problems recognizing mobile phone numbers. The field is obligatory. And it seems the only numbers it accepts are local French numbers. Not good. I put one in. But either its a serious bug, or its poorly communicated that you have to do something to enable you to put non-French numbers in. Whatever, they need to improve that. For the rest, for my simple needs, it seems to do the job. D

Très déçue

First thing the app asked me after upgrading was to log in to my existing account, but it did not accept my existing password. In addition, its so unstable. When I want to see petit prix, it crashes. Same for checking mon compt.

Great!!!!

Really nice and easy to use....

Unfriendly for foreigners

Does not work with ticket on the iPhone if you use a foreign card. Need to pick in station.

Worked perfectly for me.

Faster than the sncf website, lets you get a mobile ticket, and I didnt have any issues at all with using a foreign card.

Great, easy to use

This app is extremely easy to use. The English-speaker needs to have some level of knowledge of French, but even if you dont, you can probably figure it out. Use the "retrait en Gare" option and all you need to do is show up at the train station ticket window with your reservation number. Unfortunately, when you have a less than solid wifi connection, the app will sometimes throw out your search for a train schedule or ticket and you must start over. But I find that it works quite well for me. All in all, Id say this is a very good app.

Must read French

Sure ... Sncf is a French company, but how hard would it be to have an English option?

Incompatible w some Visa cards

Denied transaction with Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card even though the card works everywhere else.

Great app!

Easy to use and does what it should. Never had a problem with it. Its quick and straightforward. It keeps getting better. The newest version is even better. Thanks!

Extremely flawed

You can technically buy tickets with this app. However: you cannot then view those tickets if you are not online - instead you simply get stuck at the bombastic splash page ???!!!?? When I explained this problem to the conductor, she said that I shouldve taken a screenshot ahead of time so I guess its a known issue. Great. Luckily, she was able to look it up via my last name. The app also wanted my phone number but then would not except that number when I put it in. I had to quit and restart the app several times. Finally, for whatever reason, it did finally take it ???!!!?? I also had a good time trying to buy tickets that it said were available only to say that they were no longer available when it came time to actually pay. Thats a great feature – lots of fun watching the prices change as you flail around trying to complete your purchase. While the splash screen and some of the other screens are showing, you also cant see the time of day because the app designers decided that they should use a special API to go full fullscreen. I guess they thought their graphics would look better that way. Thats OK, because I can just quit the app, memorize the time of day, then open the app again. its not like I have anything better to do. Meanwhile, the price of the ticket has changed again :) :) :) — Addendum, October 24: It turns out that if you buy your ticket on the SNCF website, you cannot then transfer that ticket to the mobile app, even though one of their suggestions is to do exactly that. Does anyone test these things??? My French neighbor posits that maybe its because I have the English language version of their app (not that I had a choice) and I bought the ticket on the French website so maybe the database is therefore different.…?? umm...OK...
